Top 5 Tips for Designing a Killer Trade Show Banner

Are you preparing for an upcoming trade show?

If so, you’re not alone. In 2016, an impressive $12.8 billion was generated in trade show revenue.

No matter what kind of business you’re in, you undoubtedly rely on trade shows to attract new customers. One of the best ways to ensure visitors flock to your booth is by hanging a standout trade show banner.

In this post, we’ll reveal our top five tips for creating a killer trade show banner. Read on to learn more!

1. Keep It Simple

Our number one tip for designing your trade show banner is to keep it simple.

You may feel tempted to cram in as much information about your brand as possible. After all, a banner is huge, right? You need to fill it!

Resist this urge. Keep your banner clear, crisp, and easy to read. Otherwise, eventgoers will walk right on past to the next booth.

2. Choose the Right Font

You may favor swirling or italicized fonts, but they don’t belong on your banner.

Sans-serif fonts are considered easiest to read, so choose a common font such as Arial, Helvetica, or Times New Roman. Remember that your banner font should be large enough to read clearly from 20 feet away.

Also, don’t use all caps on your banner. You may think you’re “making a statement,” but studies show that a mix of capital and lower case letters are easiest to read.

3. Vivid Imagery or Logo

Wait, didn’t we just say to keep it simple?

Yes, but that doesn’t mean your banner must only contain text. There’s nothing wrong with incorporating your company logo or a relevant image onto your banner.

In fact, you should; otherwise, it will look dreadfully boring. But don’t go overboard and add too much imagery, either. If you do, your business name will get lost in the clutter.

4. Plenty of White Space

Just as important as what you place on your banner is what you don’t put on it.

Your company name should take center stage, along with your business logo or a relevant, easily understood image. But there should also be plenty of white space around each element of your banner.

If you try to fill every inch of space, your banner will look crowded and amateurish. Worse still, it will become nearly impossible to read.

5. Pick the Right Size & Style

Trade show banners come in a variety of styles and sizes.

Feather, pop-up, retractable, fabric, or vinyl — the choice is yours. Whatever style you choose should match your company’s overall brand and image.

You also need to select the appropriate size for your trade show booth. You want it large enough to be easily seen, but not so large that it overwhelms the rest of your booth.
